Most of you will remember Parnell’s poem.  Some of you did not know that he wrote it.  Well, he did.  Here it is:

Linger Long

would it be wrong
to linger long
when spring is fresh
upon the lawn
to watch the breast
so statuesque
fill up to round
until it crests
and bends to ground
the robin’s crown
who with a kiss
her fortune found
lest i should miss
one robin’s bliss
i linger long
then i see this
a man upon
the road at dawn
who with stiff stance
lumbers along
then seen by chance
gleaned from a glance
the old man’s bride
in the distance
with subtle pride
her figure glides
as his does fall
back from her stride
i would not call
their ritual
a lovers’ tryst
but i’m enthralled
that they insist
each morning mist
to stroll as one
but not resist
if they should come
quickly undone
for like the bird
who leaves its young
to search for worms
the trust they’ve earned
grew from the fact
that they return
to settle back
on their small tract
to search for songs
they might extract
and i pray on
to know my own
i linger long
i linger long

My honeymoon photos are here.
